White Ash is a large, majestic tree of eastern forests producing compound leaves with 5–9 leaflets that turn purple-maroon in fall. Emerald ash borer, an introduced beetle, has killed hundreds of millions of ash trees and threatens the species with functional extinction. White ash wood is the preferred material for baseball bats and tool handles.
