The Great Basin Pocket Mouse is the largest of the smooth-haired pocket mice, with a grayish-brown coat and pale sides that blend perfectly with the sagebrush soils it inhabits. It enters extended torpor during the coldest months, relying on cached seeds for energy during periodic winter warm spells when it briefly wakes. This species is abundant throughout the Great Basin's shrubsteppe.
