Townsend's Solitaire is a slim, gray thrush of western mountain forests with a distinctive white eye ring and buff wing patches visible in flight. It breeds in mountain forests and winters in juniper woodlands, where individual birds aggressively defend berry-laden juniper trees as their winter territory. Its song is one of the finest in western North America — a rich, complex warble.
