The Long-billed Dowitcher is a large shorebird that is nearly identical to the Short-billed Dowitcher and is best distinguished by its sharp, high 'keek' call versus the Short-billed's mellow 'tu-tu-tu.' It prefers freshwater habitats more than the Short-billed Dowitcher, especially during fall and winter. Both dowitchers feed with the characteristic rapid sewing-machine probing motion.
