The Eight-spotted Skimmer is a large, striking dragonfly of western North America with four large dark spots at the base of each wing (eight total) and contrasting white spots in between on male wings. It is one of the most conspicuous and beautiful western skimmers. Males perch prominently on emergent vegetation to guard territories over ponds.
