American Alumroot is a native wildflower of rocky, wooded cliffs and hillsides in eastern and central North America with attractive, mottled heart-shaped leaves and airy spikes of tiny greenish-white flowers. The astringent root was used medicinally by indigenous peoples. Ruby-throated hummingbirds visit the flowers despite their small size.
