Witch Hazel is the only native tree or shrub in eastern North America that blooms in November and December, producing spider-like yellow flowers on bare branches while most other plants are dormant. Its seeds are forcibly ejected up to 30 feet when the capsules dry out. Extract from its bark and leaves is widely used in skin care products.
