Narrow-leaved Coneflower is a native prairie wildflower of the Great Plains, more drought-tolerant than its more familiar relative purple coneflower. Its large, spiky seed heads persist through winter, providing food for American goldfinches. It was one of the most important medicinal plants used by plains indigenous peoples and is widely used in herbal medicine.
