Illustration of Snow Goose (Anser caerulescens)

The Snow Goose exists in two color morphs — the white phase with black wingtips and the dark 'Blue Goose' phase — and populations have grown explosively in recent decades due to agricultural subsidy on wintering grounds. The enormous concentrations staging in the Central Flyway represent one of the most spectacular wildlife spectacles in North America. Overpopulation is causing severe damage to arctic tundra nesting habitat.

Habitat
Arctic tundra in summer; coastal marshes and agricultural fields in winter

Grasses, sedges, roots, and agricultural grains
