The Common Wood-Nymph is a large, brown satyr butterfly with two large yellow-ringed eyespots on the forewing, highly variable in pattern across its wide range. Its understated coloration helps it blend into dried grasses and woodland litter where it spends most of its time. Adults have a bobbing, erratic flight and prefer the shade of woodland edges.
