The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is the state bird of Oklahoma and one of the most elegant birds in North America, with extraordinarily long, forked tail feathers — up to twice the length of the bird's body — that stream behind it in graceful flight. It performs spectacular aerial maneuvers while foraging and during display, folding and spreading the tail. Salmon-pink flanks add further elegance.
