Illustration of Green Trillium (Trillium viride)

Green Trillium is a rare, sessile trillium with distinctive narrow, erect green petals that blend with the leaves, making the flowers nearly invisible unless looked for closely. Native to a small area of the Ozarks and south-central United States, it grows in rich upland and bottomland forests. The green flowers are unusual among trilliums and are pollinated by flies attracted to a faint unpleasant odor. Green Trillium is a state-listed plant in several parts of its limited range.
