Illustration of Starflower (Trientalis borealis)

Starflower is a delicate native wildflower of boreal and northern hardwood forests, producing a single whorl of leaves from which slender stalks bear perfect seven-petaled white flowers—unusual in flowering plants, which more commonly have five petals. It grows from a tiny underground tuber and forms scattered colonies in cool, moist, shaded forests.
