The Red-bellied Squirrel is a Mexican species that has established a small introduced population on Elliott Key in Biscayne National Park, Florida. It is a large, variable squirrel with a distinctive rufous or orange belly and a gray grizzled back. In its native Mexico it inhabits tropical and subtropical forests where it plays a role in seed dispersal.
