Post Oak is a medium-sized, slow-growing oak of dry upland forests from New England to Texas, easily identified by its distinctive cross-shaped leaves. It is a fire-tolerant species that forms open, park-like woodlands on rocky and sandy ridges. It co-dominates blackjack oak woodlands known as 'Cross Timbers' in Texas and Oklahoma.

Dry rocky and sandy upland forests of the eastern and south-central United States

Acorns eaten by wild turkey, deer, and many birds and small mammals
