American Plum is a native thicket-forming shrub or small tree of prairie margins, stream banks, and forest edges that produces fragrant white blossoms in early spring before the leaves emerge. The tart red-to-yellow plums are relished by deer, foxes, raccoons, coyotes, and many bird species. Dense thickets provide excellent cover for wildlife.
