The Large Purple Fringed Orchid is a magnificent native orchid of moist eastern woods and meadows, producing tall spikes of lavender-purple fringed flowers. Its nectar-filled spurs are specifically adapted for hawk moths. It blooms in June and July and is one of the showiest native orchids in North America, though it has declined with habitat loss.
