Bishop Pine is a fire-adapted coastal pine of California with serotinous cones that can remain closed on the tree for decades. It occurs in disjunct populations along the California coast and on Channel and Cedros Islands, often in fog-swept coastal scrub. Its populations have declined significantly due to development of coastal habitats.
