The Lowland Coati subspecies is the large, common coati of the lowland forests of Mexico and Central America, foraging in large bands through tropical vegetation. Its flexible, elongated snout allows it to probe into crevices in logs, rocks, and soil for invertebrate prey. Coatis are diurnal and highly vocal, making them among the most commonly observed medium-sized mammals in ecotourism destinations like Costa Rica.
