The White-tipped Dove is a large, ground-foraging dove of Central and South America that enters the US in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The white tips on the outer tail feathers, visible in flight, are diagnostic. It walks quietly on the forest floor, making a deep hollow 'hoooo' call that is easy to overlook.
