Round-lobed Hepatica is one of the very first spring wildflowers to bloom, often pushing through snow in late February and March. The flowers range from white to pink to lavender-blue on fuzzy stems, opening before new leaves appear. The three-lobed evergreen leaves remain through winter and were once used as herbal remedies for liver ailments (hepatica = liver). Found in dry to moist forests across eastern North America, it is a gem of the early spring woodland flora.

Diet
Provides critical very-early-spring pollen for queen bumblebees and mining bees emerging from hibernation.
