The Willow Flycatcher is virtually indistinguishable from the Alder Flycatcher by appearance alone; their songs — 'fitz-bew' versus 'fee-bee-o' — are the most reliable identification tool. It nests low in shrubby willows and alders along streams and wetland edges. Southwestern populations are listed as endangered due to habitat loss and cowbird parasitism.
