Silverberry is a native nitrogen-fixing shrub of the northern plains and boreal regions with distinctively silvery leaves and stems. Its small, fragrant yellow flowers attract many insects, and the mealy silver berries are eaten by grouse, bears, and many birds. Unlike the invasive autumn olive, it is a well-behaved native species of northern habitats.
