The Blackish Small-eared Shrew is a dark, forest-floor shrew of humid tropical forests from Central America through northwestern South America. It is somewhat larger than other Cryptotis species and is associated with moist forest floor microhabitats with abundant leaf litter. Its dark coloration may provide camouflage in the dim forest floor environment.
