The Great Curassow is a large, turkey-like bird of tropical rainforests that barely enters the extreme southern tip of North America in Mexico. The male is entirely glossy black with a curly yellow-knobbed crest. It is highly sensitive to hunting pressure and habitat loss and is now extirpated from much of its former range.
