Illustration of Tussock Sedge (Carex stricta)

Tussock Sedge forms elevated hummocks in wet meadows and marshes that create unique microhabitats for other plants, invertebrates, and small mammals. It is a dominant plant of many northeastern and Great Lakes wetlands. Sedge wrens and swamp sparrows nest in its tussocks, and its seeds feed many marsh-dwelling birds.
