Saskatoon Serviceberry is a multi-stemmed shrub native to western and central North America, from Alaska to California and east to the Great Lakes. It produces clusters of white flowers in spring followed by large, sweet, dark-purple berries prized by Indigenous peoples for centuries. The berries are commercially cultivated in Canada and are used in jams, pies, and wine. It is extremely cold-hardy and drought-tolerant once established.

Habitat
Found on open prairies, forest edges, rocky slopes, and coulees throughout the western interior.
Diet
Berries eaten by bears, deer, coyotes, and numerous bird species including grouse and cedar waxwings.
