Drummond Red Maple is the swamp-adapted variety of red maple found in bottomland forests and swamps of the Deep South. It is characterized by larger leaves with woolly white undersides and larger samaras than the typical species. Wood ducks, prothonotary warblers, and other cavity nesters depend on its hollow trunks.
